If a person you care for asks questions repeatedly, has trouble performing simple tasks, or forgets recent events, he or she may have a form of Dementia.

Through this course you will receive the knowledge, skills, and recourses you need to understand the dynamics of this disease. In addition you will be able to more effectively communicate with the people that you are caring for.

What is Dementia?
Dementia is a loss of brain function that occurs with certain diseases. It affects memory, thinking, language, judgment, and behavior.

  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Huntington’s disease
  • Infections that can affect the brain such HIV/AIDS and Lyme disease
  • Dementia caused by small strokes (vascular dementia).
  • Did you know, most types of dementia are nonreversible (degenerative).

Nonreversible means the changes in the brain that are causing the dementia cannot be stopped or turned back. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia.
